ramblings of a teenage girl

How beautiful you are,
my darling.
Song of Songs 1:15
-
Alexandra, Joanoreen and I met in a class right before our dismissal time. We soon realized that we all hated word problems, all wanted to be a doctor someday and we share the common love for food, most especially for ice creams! During recesses, we were inseparable.
It was our second day in school and our classmates would start raising questions like: “Do you know each other for a long time?” or “Do you belong in the same class in high school?” That exact moment made me realized that I already shared a tight bond with these girls even though we just met a day before we formally meet our other block mates.
Joanoreen, the girl who is born with exceptional leadership skills led the class on a nomination. I and Alexandra already predicted that Joanoreeen would win our classmates’ vote just like what she did to ours. Guess what, our instincts didn’t fail us! Our friend won the spotlight.
After the nomination, we all decided to take a break. During these times, we would talk about anything under the sun and most of the time; we would discuss our own cup of tea. It was also the time when I discovered that both Joanoreen and Alexandra came from a broken family. As they share their stories, I was thanking God because my family isn’t broken and unhappy. I even saw Alexandra cry because until that day, her only wish is a complete and a happy family. I also realized why Joanoreen has a burning passion on the field of medicine. “When I was 10, my mother died because of breast cancer and that is the exact reason why I really want to be a doctor. She inspires me from the day I was born and from the day that she left my side.”
We shared time studying, talking and eating together. After a semester full of joy, we have to leave each other because we know that we would be re-blocked anytime soon. On our day of enrolment, I was with Alexandra when I received the news that I will be transferred to the other block while my buddies, would still be a member of block two. I believe my heart broke when I learned that I won’t be sharing my second semester with my amazing friends anymore but I know for sure, they would remain a special part of me and my college life.
my darling.
